Tarbert, the entrance to Kintyre has a natural horseshoe harbour but does not have sandy beaches as you would expect although there would have been at one time areas that were sandy, however nowadays the harbour is filled with silt and looking a bit worse for wear.
Although to remedy that, there are two small 'beaches' of interest here, the first is called the white shore and can be accessed by a walk of approximately 20 minutes from the end of Garval Road (the road that turns sharply left just before Kintyre Filling Station as you come down the hill into the village).
The second is called shell beach and can be accessed by a little clambering at the very end of east pier road. The beach is made entirely from the shells of clams!
