Just north of Campbeltown a stretch of coastline travels north to Bellochantuy and provides spectacular rocky coastline, and in the winter and autumn months the wind can provide with some spectacular waves crashing against the rocks.
Between this section of rocky section of coastline and the last stretch to Cambeltown lies Westport.
Westport beach is a popular beach as it is the nearest good surf beach for many miles, when the wind and currents are right the waves provide beginners and intermediate surfers with a surfable swell. The waves are not huge but surfable. Westport beach is also sandy and has a good car park for close access.
Westport does however normally have strong currents so it is not advisable to swim here.
